Omega x Swatch MoonSwatch

There is no doubt the biggest hype watch during the year 2022 is the Omega and Swatch collaboration the so-called MoonSwatch.

Where does it come from?

The watch itself is a perfect combination of two brands, they have used a new material from Swatch the Bioceramic, which is a new kind of plastic that has been been used on some of their watches before but is new to the world in 2022.

This above-mentioned together with one of the world’s most famous designs of a watch, the design of the famous Omega Speedmaster also called the MoonSwatch because of its usage by NASA in their mission to space.

Launching strategy of the MoonSwatch

There is no hidden secret that the launching strategy was something that helped the watch reach tremendous success during the year. There came out a small leak about these watches slightly before the official launch of 26th of Mars. This created a huge buzz in the watch world and was something that everyone talked about.

How to get hold of the watch itself

In the beginning, it was almost impossible to get hold of the watch, the stores were swarmed with people who would do anything to get hold of the watch. At this stage, it was also very unclear if the watch would be limited and available online or anything. Therefore the hype just increased more and more and people were speculating freely claiming to have inside info from Swatch and more.

But up until now, it is still just available in selected swatch stores around the world still making some of the models very hard to find.

All we know is Swatch has said that they will be available to buy and that they will continue to sell them. And why not? It is a great looking watch and people love them. So fingers crossed they will continue a while more.

The Fiat 500 Swatch Tour

Later in the summer, Swatch shared that they would send out 11 cars, each one representing one of the watches. And this was in order for people who did not have a swatch store in their city would also be able to get hold of the MoonSwatch.

I who live in Stockholm Sweden do not have a local Swatch store was of course very happy with this news. And I was also lucky to find the car on my way home from work selling the watches from the trunk of their car.

Cool experience and great to see the small but very cool fiat 500 driving around the city with watch nerds chasing it.

The watch itself

The watch is as we said before a mixture of the Omega and Swatch DNA, with the design from Omega but the materials from Swatch.

The Case

The case for the watch is identical to the original Speedmaster model from Omega which makes it really cool to wear and especially for the people who wanted to try this watch out before buying the real deal.

The dial

The dial is very similar to the Original Omega, but it has some differences. The sub-seconds do have a different placement which is slightly higher up which can be seen when comparing them beside each other.

The Strap

The original MoonSwatch strap is what most people talk about. That is because it is cool, but maybe not the most comfortable or good-looking. The strap has its design from the original straps used on the moon tours which has a velcro attachment.

Because of this somewhat different strap, the market for other brands has been booming and millions of different alternatives have come to life. This is why we have decided to create a completely standalone blog post for different alternative straps for the Moonswatch.
