Jacob & Co. keeps pushing the limits of what is physically possible in watchmaking. By dressing its iconic Bugatti model in a case of solid sapphire crystal, the brand now invites us into a world where nothing is left to the imagination. Welcome to the Bugatti Tourbillon Sapphire Crystal.
The collaboration between Jacob & Co. and Bugatti has always been about more than logos on a dial. It is about translating the feeling of a hypercar to the wrist. But where the car is built from carbon fibre and metal, the new Bugatti Tourbillon Sapphire Crystal takes the step into total transparency.

800 hours for a single case
Working with sapphire crystal is a nightmare for a watchmaker but a dream for the viewer. The material measures 9 on the Mohs hardness scale (where diamond is 10), which makes it extremely scratch-resistant but also incredibly brittle during manufacturing.
The entire case, measuring 54.8 x 44 mm, is carved from large blocks of corundum. A single case requires over 800 hours of precision work in specialised machines. Go too fast and the crystal cracks; go too slow and the material resists. The result? A watch that gives a 360-degree view of the mechanical marvel inside. Even the case’s three components — caseback, middle, and bezel — are each machined from a solid block, with 18K gold details and 30 metres of water resistance.
A V16 engine on the wrist
The heart of the watch is, just like in the car that inspired it, the engine. Calibre JCAM55 is not just a movement, it is a tribute to Bugatti’s new V16 engine, and one of the most architecturally ambitious calibres in modern independent watchmaking with its 557 components.
- The automaton: through the sapphire we see a miniature of the V16 block, also carved from a single piece of transparent sapphire.
- The pistons: 16 titanium cylinders are driven by a single-axis crankshaft that, when you press the pusher in the crown, sets off a 20-second animation — and the movement holds enough energy for 20 full animation sequences.
- The tourbillon: a 30-second flying tourbillon — among the fastest Jacob & Co. has ever created — rotates frantically to counter the effects of gravity.

An instrument panel for time
The dial is directly inspired by Bugatti’s instrumentation. Instead of traditional hands it uses retrograde functions. The hour jumps to the next hour, and the minute hand sweeps across a 270-degree arc before snapping back to zero. On the left we find the tourbillon, and on the right a combined power-reserve indicator for both the movement (80 hours) and the engine automaton. The movement runs at a relaxed 21,600 vph (3 Hz).
Unique colours for unique collectors
The first series launches in two executions: one in Jacob & Co.’s signature green and one in “Baby Blue” — Jacob Arabo’s personal favourite colour, each a unique piece. Every detail, from the small PVD-finished exhaust pipes to the stitching on the strap, is colour-coordinated to match the theme, and the rubber strap with its louvre pattern closes on a rose-gold and titanium deployant clasp.

What makes the Bugatti Tourbillon Sapphire Crystal special?
A case entirely machined from solid sapphire crystal — over 800 hours of work — giving a 360-degree view of the JCAM55 movement, including a V16 engine-block automaton and a 30-second flying tourbillon.
What does the V16 automaton do?
Carved from a single block of transparent sapphire with 16 titanium pistons on a single-axis crankshaft, it fires all cylinders in sequence for a 20-second animation when the crown pusher is pressed — up to 20 sequences per full wind.
How much does it cost?
USD 1,200,000, launched in April 2026 as unique pieces in Jacob & Co. green and Baby Blue.
