A lot is happening in the watch world right now, and one of the more interesting moves comes from Geneva and Italy. Richemont and the Italian Damiani Group have now signed an agreement under which Damiani acquires Baume & Mercier in full. The deal (announced on 22 January 2026) is expected to be completed in the summer of 2026 and marks the beginning of a new chapter for one of the industry’s most storied names.

An ownership change with a long-term focus
Baume & Mercier has a history stretching over 200 years (the Maison was founded in 1830) and has long held a clear position in the more accessible luxury segment. According to both parties, the ambition is that the brand’s long-term potential can be better realised within the Damiani Group, not least thanks to their strong presence in Italy and experience with multi-brand distribution. The Damiani Group has been family-owned since its start in Valenza in 1924 — today led by the third generation, Guido, Silvia, and Giorgio Damiani — and has built a strong reputation in exclusive jewellery and hard luxury. Adding a dedicated watch brand like Baume & Mercier to the portfolio (alongside Salvini, Bliss, Calderoni, the Murano glassmaker Venini, and the retailer Rocca) feels like a logical step — and one that can give new momentum.
What does this mean for Baume & Mercier?
The plan is to strengthen Baume & Mercier’s visibility through the Damiani Group’s established network, while over time opening selected mono-brand boutiques in strategic locations. This can mean better exposure, a clearer identity in store, and closer contact with the end customer. During a transition period of at least 12 months after closing, Richemont will continue to support the business operationally, which creates stability while Damiani prepares the integration. It signals a controlled and considered shift rather than an abrupt change. The financial terms of the transaction have not been disclosed.

An active and exciting time for the industry
That a brand as classic and respected as Baume & Mercier gets a new owner shows how dynamic the watch industry is right now. New collaborations, structural changes, and clearer strategies are often the breeding ground for creativity and product development — something both collectors and new enthusiasts tend to gain from. For Baume & Mercier, this can mean a clearer direction, a stronger presence in important markets, and perhaps even more boldness in future collections, without compromising the heritage.
